The Get Creative project is a National Lottery funded project designed to support the patients of Addenbrookes Hospital that would like to develop their digital skills. Many children and young people find themselves hospitalised for considerable periods of time due to injury, trauma or illness. The Get Creative project provides both one-to-one and group learning opportunities in the digital topics of music production, robotics and VR.

Our robotics activities centre around Lego’s educational platform, which is known as Lego Mindstorms. This gives participants the opportunity to develop skills in the areas of robotic design and creation as well as in the coding/control of the robots. This activity can be performed whilst in a hospital bed or in group areas.

Our music sessions provide an opportunity to use music production software, such as Apple’s ‘Logic’ whilst also working with experienced musicians who can help those that would like to write their own lyrics and compose their own backing tracks.

The VR (virtual reality) offering gives beneficiaries the chance to take themselves out of the hospital environment for a short period. With a number of VR apps, these activities are both educational and aspirational.
