Photography challenges

Photography is vital. It plays a crucial role in preserving moments in all of our lives and of the wider world. Without photography our own memories of events, people, and places would simply fade away with time.

Photography also has many benefits for our mental health, as it helps us showcase our creativity, detaches us from otherworld responsibilities and reduces stress, anxiety and depression.

Monthly themes

STARTING MARCH 2025
The opening theme for March 2025 is “Your home town”.

STARTING APRIL 2025
April’s theme is “Made of wood”.

STARTING MAY 2025
May’s theme is “Water”.

As such, 20Twenty would like to see more children and young people taking photographs. As you read above, there are so many reasons to do so. That said, many fall at the first hurdle – what to take photographs of. Therefore, every month, 20Twenty Productions will pose a theme to inspire. So grab your camera (whether a smartphone or traditional camera) and showcase your talents. Better still do this as a family, there’s just so much fun to be had.

As soon as you have some images please share them with us either on social media (use the hashtag #20TwentyPhotoComp) or email us.

Any winners and prizes will be announced at the start of each month with the new theme for the following month.

Some starting photography tips

  • Make the subject of the image clear to the viewer
  • Keep your images balanced (top/bottom or left/right)
  • Think about your point of view, do not always take your pictures at normal height
  • Keep the images simple

The image above is balanced horizontally (left and right sides similar) and has a clear subject.

The image above is simple, balanced and has a lower point of view to be level with the bike.

All of the images below were taken on a smartphone during a day out in London. No need for expensive camera equipment. All of the images follow most if not all of the guidelines given at the top of this page. Notice how making the images black and white adds some drama to the images.

The final image shows a dog running through a field. Clear simple subject. Balanced. With a low point of view.

What are my themes?

The first three themes are at the top of this page.

Each month we will share details of the new theme on our social media. So keep a look out. We will also share regular tips, tricks and examples of how to take better photographs.

Also, take a moment to tell friends and family. Get more people involved both taking and looking at each other’s imagery.
